Will you be my workout buddy?

What’s more important than having a valentine during this time of year? Having a workout buddy. It may not seem that important, but there are more bonuses than you know. Studies have shown that working out with someone not only increases your accountability, but keeps your spirits high and leads to better results. Here are some ways to get fit with your special someone.

Push-Up Shoulder Tap

You and your partner should face each other in the push up position. In unison, perform the perfect push-up together. Drop your chest all the way to the ground, keep your core tight, and your legs straight. When you come back to the top of your push up position each of you lift your right hand and tap your partner’s left shoulder.

Each time you go down and complete a push-up alternate the shoulder that you are tapping. Perform this for at least 8 reps. To modify this workout try doing the push-up on your knees.

Bodyweight Squat

Stand and face your partner at an arm’s length away. Set your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart and grasp each other’s forearms. Come into a squat and send your hips back bending your knees and keeping your core as tight as possible.

Be sure to maintain a secure grip as you go down keeping your knees aligned with your ankles. Pause and hold your squat for a moment before returning back to your original position. Repeat this for at least 10 reps.

Reach-and-Touch Plank

Both partners will hold a high plank position. Your heads should be about one foot apart. In your high plank you should support yourself on your hands with your wrists under your shoulders. Make sure your core is tight, and that your legs are straight behind you and at hip level.

Try not to raise your hips, or sag them as you proceed through your exercise. Each partner should reach up with their right hand and quickly clap hands with each other before returning your hand as quickly as possible back into the plank position. Repeat this motion with your left hands. Continue this alternating pattern of clapping hands with your partner for 30 seconds, for at least 8 reps.
