Cycle Classes

A new year means finding new ways to be the best you that you can be. A new trend that is taking the fitness community by storm is indoor cycling, or spinning classes. It involves sitting on a stationary bike while pedaling to get a cardiovascular workout.

Indoor cycling classes are praised for their upbeat and motivational atmospheres. Depending on the studio that you visit, classes are 30 to 75 minutes long and you can burn up to 900 calories per class. You burn so many calories because of the varying intensities, changes in body positioning, pedal speed, and resistance. This may seem overwhelming, but your instructor will guide you. Your class will mirror a true bike ride with as you journey uphill and downhill, sprint and cool down.

Still unsure about taking your first spin class? Here are some tips for spin class newbies who need some motivation for their first ride.

Get a good seat in the front

Most classes will have the option of reserving a bike online ahead of time to make sure you get a spot in the class. As a newbie you may be tempted to grab a seat in the back,  but getting a bike up front will make it easier for you to follow along.

Ask your instructor questions

The instructor is  there to help you! Don’t shy away from asking any and all questions that you may have. As a new rider, your instructor will help you adjust your saddle to make sure that the height of the bike seat leaves your leg at the proper 30-degree angle. They will also make sure you know the positions and numbers on the bike so you know where to grip the bar handles. They will also explain the resistance, or gears on the bike that control how hard your muscles will work throughout the ride.

Choose a class you will love

Do you love partying and upbeat music? Choose a studio like Soul Cycle that will give you a club like atmosphere where they dim the lights and turn up the music for an optimal amount of fun. Want to track your progress? Studios like RYDE will let you track all of your metrics, including average rotations and calories burned, so you can see your progress class by class.
